The international dialling code for calls from Western Europe to Morocco is 00212, then the area code (without "0") must be dialled and finally the number of the person to be called. For domestic calls the initial "0" of the area code must also be dialled. The dialling code "06" is used for calls into mobile phone networks. For international calls from Morocco, the prefix "00" must be dialled prior to the relevant country code (in the case of calls to Germany, for example, 0049).
Phone boxes and so-called Teleboutiques are available with both coin and card phones. Phone cards may be obtained from post offices, in the Teleboutiques and some tobacco shops; they are only valid for calls made with the issuing phone company. At night and on national holidays reduced tariffs apply. When calling from hotels check tariffs in advance. Some hotels charge a minimum tariff, thus short calls may be very expensive.
